I don’t think ANYONE in congress wants to see arrests and real prosecution. Why? it would damage our international standing and really hurt their multi-million dollar investments and trust funds. That’s why.

I think my country has fallen apart. Americans are dull witted, immoral, selfish, greedy cowards. Even if a person did not know anything about US foreign policy and the capture of the US economy by literally delusional fascist billionaires, that person would only need to see the Epstein files and lack of ANY action by Americans and their “leaders” to conclude that this is a fascist country mostly devoid of morals and intellect.

You are so right. The cause of all these girls being abused is economic and emotional insecurity. Also living in a country that commodifies women and objectifies their worth is an ongoing problem that is getting worse not better. Women’s rights are being reversed and White male supremacy policies are being supported by the Supreme Court right wing.
Prof. Wolff hit the nail on the head. The problem is systemic. The system is capitalism with its inevitable inequality. Punishing the "bad apples" won't help. For every apple in prison, one hundred more will blossom.

To be honest, even people who adamantly defend capitalism don't realize Capitalism itself has been compromised and no longer works to "promoto competition". As it is now, it's been mangles and subdued to keep a handful of wealthy people wealthy forever like in the age of monarchs and lords, while the poor plows the fields to hand over all their fuitions to their rich lords, and live eternally locked in poverty.
Capitalism is the water we swim in and it's hard to perceive the harms until someone like Professor Wolff points it out. But capitalism is all about the commodification of _everything_.
Depends on who the "we" is that takes the means of production...Safe money wouldn't bet on change to some state of automated perfection. Fallible humans put in, fallible product comes out... "Pride goeth before a fall..." was observed, writ, published and passed on as fallible human direction to our captured lower orders of 'laborers...'
Is this holiday a joke? How many people know that the tune “Hail To The Chief” was implemented as a sarcastic dig at George Washington? He didn’t like being equated with a King (it was antithetical to the Revolution) but politicians insisted he was a King, and so it became the perpetual dig at every President, including your personal President with whom you have a deeply personal relationship of salvation (sorry Jesus), and has been transformed from a sarcastic dig into an imperial statement.
All presidents (or their writers) have been great at rhetoric, and piss-poor with morals, ethics, and actions. Jefferson wrote one of the greatest freedom documents in existence, yet he kept slaves and “purchased” a huge tract of tribal lands not from those tribes, but from the French who had taken it by force and occupied it; and Jefferson bought more slaves and made war upon all the natives. This perpetuation of injustice and immorality has never been halted, because in actual fact, no President or politician through to this day has ever had a conscience. Even Lincoln at first was opposed to freeing slaves, and he was already participating in native slaughter. No matter who your personal favorite President was or is, they are immoral just like all the others.
