Progressive membership caucuses within the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), the influential teachers' union in New York City, have announced their intention to challenge the long-dominant Unity caucus in the 2025 union elections. This coalition, known as ARISE (Alliance of Retired and In-Service Educators), brings together three caucuses: Retiree Advocate (RA), the Movement of Rank and File Educators (MORE), and New Action (NA). Their goal is to disrupt the leadership structure that has maintained control for over six decades.
